Voices for Animals, through its Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Project, provides spay/neuter services for FERAL CATS OR SHY STRAY CATS ONLY. Voices for Animals offers free spay/neuter clinics seven times a year at the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA. Reservations must be made with Voices for Animals, and cats must be transported to the clinic in humane box traps. At the clinic, cats are also vaccinated for rabies and distemper and dewormed, and receive flea treatment, ear mite medicine, a long-term anitibiotic shot, and pain medication. All cats are eartipped for identification. Obviously sick cats will be FeLV/FIV tested and may be euthanized at the discretion of the veterinary staff. Voices for Animals also offers a subsidized spay/neuter certificate program for feral cat caregivers in its service area (see below), to be used at participating local vet clinics. Certificates can be purchased at trap loan/return and training sessions at the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA. Check the website or call to find out when the next sessions are scheduled. |
